What the South Korea estimate is built from

By the combined cost-and-rent index, South Korea ranks 12 of 36 countries in this dataset. Its index is 27% below the US baseline used here. This compares indices; it is not a quote for every city.

General price index61.6
Rent index16.1
Groceries index77.5
Local purchasing power111.5

Method

The baseline is €2,450 per month for one adult in an average US city, renting a private home with a balanced lifestyle. We multiply it by the country's combined-index ratio to 56.3, then apply the selected city, housing, household and lifestyle factors.

Limitations

A country index hides large differences between cities. Before moving, verify actual rent, taxes, visa costs, insurance, healthcare, childcare and transport for the chosen city.
